Messi vs Ronaldo: Barca star to reverse retirement decision to face Ronaldo for the Artemio Franchi trophy?

                        Messi vs Ronaldo
Argentina could play Portugal in the Artemio Franchi trophy in 2018, but will Messi come out of retirement for it?

A showdown between the 2016 Copa America and European Championship finalists is being slated for 2018 and that means Portugal v Argentina & Chile v France in two semi-finals.

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo v Messi is on the international stage for only the third time.

Messi has been unsuccessful in his attempts to win silverware with Argentina, losing three Copa America finals and the World Cup final, leading him to hang up his international boots.

However, he could fix that run of defeats by denying his great rival more glory, after Portugal's Euro 2016 victory, in a planned revival of the Artemio Franchi Trophy, staged between the best teams from the continental competition's of world football's most respected regions.

The Artemio Franchi trophy between Copa America and European Championship sides has been contested twice before – in 1985 and 1993 – and was the forerunner to the Confederations Cup, which is held every four years between the six champions of FIFA's confederations.

And in the weeks leading up to the Euro 2016 final, Alejandro Dominguez, president of South American football (CONMEBOL) revealed a proposal to stage matches between the 2016 finalists from South America and Europe had been submitted, tweeting: "We received a positive response from UEFA about a game between the winner of Euro 2016 and the champions of the Copa America. We will study a viable date to set."
